AFRICAN BEEKEEPERS LIMITED

Apiary Tools & Protective Equipment

Safe and effective apiary management requires dependable protective clothing and practical tools for opening hives, handling frames and working around managed honeybee colonies.

African Beekeepers Limited manufactures and supplies apiary equipment designed for regular field use with African honeybee colonies.

COLONY HANDLING

Jumbo Bee Smoker

ABL developed its jumbo smoker with a large fuel chamber capable of producing a steady supply of cool smoke when working with African honeybee colonies.

The bellows are fitted with a return spring to support consistent airflow and make repeated operation easier during hive inspections.

  • Large-capacity cylindrical fuel chamber
  • Protective outer heat shield
  • Return-spring bellows
  • Directed smoke outlet
  • Suitable for inspections and honey harvesting

Smoke should be used sparingly. The smoker should produce cool, clean smoke rather than flames or excessive heat that could injure bees.

FULL-BODY PROTECTION

Bee Suit

ABL bee suits are manufactured using carefully selected material and fitted with secure zips and hook-and-loop closures to reduce openings through which bees could enter.

The attached veil uses robust netting designed to retain its shape rather than collapse against the beekeeper’s face. This provides visibility, ventilation and working space around the head.

  • Full-body protective construction
  • Secure bee-resistant zips and closures
  • Integrated protective veil
  • Robust face-screening material
  • Designed for regular field and apiary use

The suit should be inspected before every apiary visit to confirm that all seams, zips, closures and veil sections are properly secured.

ESSENTIAL HIVE TOOL

Hive Tool

The hive tool combines a prying end and scraping end in one strong, compact implement.

It can be used to loosen hive components sealed together with propolis, separate the brood chamber from the honey super and carefully lift frames during colony inspection or harvesting.

  • Opening propolis-sealed hive components
  • Separating brood boxes and honey supers
  • Loosening and lifting hive frames
  • Scraping excess wax and propolis
  • Cleaning frame rests and working surfaces

The tool should be cleaned between apiaries to reduce the possibility of transferring pests or disease between colonies.

GENTLE BEE REMOVAL

Bee Brush

ABL manufactures and supplies bee brushes fitted with soft, bee-friendly bristles.

The brush is used to gently move bees from frames, honeycombs and hive surfaces during inspections and harvesting.

  • Soft bristles for careful bee handling
  • Long handle for controlled brushing
  • Suitable for frames and hive surfaces
  • Useful during colony inspection and harvesting

Bees should be brushed with slow, gentle movements to avoid injuring or unnecessarily agitating the colony.

HAND AND WRIST PROTECTION

Beekeeping Gloves

Protective gloves help reduce the risk of stings to the hands and wrists while handling hive components and colony frames.

The extended gauntlet-style cuffs provide additional coverage and can be secured beneath or over the sleeves of the bee suit.

  • Protects hands and wrists from bee stings
  • Extended cuffs provide additional coverage
  • Suitable for hive inspection and harvesting
  • Easy-to-clean protective surface

Gloves should fit securely without excessively restricting the beekeeper’s ability to handle frames and tools carefully.

LOWER-LEG PROTECTION

Protective Boots

High protective boots help prevent bees from entering through the lower openings of the beekeeper’s clothing.

They also protect the feet and lower legs from mud, vegetation, moisture and uneven conditions commonly encountered around field apiaries.

  • High-leg protective coverage
  • Suitable for use with a full bee suit
  • Protects feet from wet and muddy apiary conditions
  • Easy to clean after field use

The legs of the bee suit should be secured over or around the boots so that no opening is left through which bees can enter.

EQUIPMENT STORAGE

Beekeeping Bag

The beekeeping bag provides a practical way to organize and transport essential apiary tools and protective equipment.

Its main compartment and external storage sections allow frequently used items to be kept together and carried between apiary sites.

  • Suitable for carrying essential apiary tools
  • Main equipment-storage compartment
  • External pockets for smaller accessories
  • Portable design for field visits
  • ABL-branded identification panel

Smokers should be completely extinguished and cool before being placed inside the equipment bag.
