AFRICAN BEEKEEPERS LIMITED
Honey Ripeners and Straining Equipment
African Beekeepers Limited supplies practical equipment for clarifying, settling and preparing extracted honey for packaging.
After extraction, honey may contain small particles of wax and other material from the comb. Proper straining and settling help produce clean, attractive honey while preserving its natural qualities.
HONEY SETTLING AND STORAGE
Honey Settling Tank
The honey settling tank provides a clean and controlled container in which freshly extracted and strained honey can rest before packaging.
Allowing honey to settle gives small wax particles and air bubbles time to rise to the surface, where they can be removed before the honey is transferred into its final containers.
The tank is raised on a stable metal stand and fitted with a gate valve, allowing honey to be dispensed from the lower part of the container without disturbing material that has collected at the surface.
Key Features
- Suitable for settling and holding processed honey
- Fitted with a gate valve for controlled dispensing
- Supplied with a supporting metal stand
- Elevated design provides space for filling containers
- Helps separate air bubbles and remaining wax particles
- Suitable for small-scale and community processing units
DOUBLE-STAGE HONEY FILTRATION
Stainless-Steel Honey Sieve
The double stainless-steel sieve is designed for straining freshly extracted honey before it is transferred to a settling tank or packaging container.
Its two-stage construction combines approximately 1 mm openings for the initial filtration with approximately 0.5 mm openings for finer straining. This helps remove wax particles and other material introduced during uncapping and extraction.
Adjustable supporting handles allow the sieve to rest securely across containers with diameters of approximately 20 cm to 40 cm.
Key Features
- Durable stainless-steel construction
- Two filtration levels for progressive straining
- Approximately 1 mm upper-stage openings
- Approximately 0.5 mm fine-straining openings
- Adjustable handles for different container sizes
- Reusable and easy to clean after processing
FINE HONEY STRAINING
Cloth Honey Strainer
The reusable cloth strainer provides another practical method of filtering extracted honey, particularly within small-scale and field-based processing operations.
Its conical shape directs honey towards the lower opening while the fabric helps retain particles of wax and other comb material. The strainer can be suspended over a clean, food-safe collection container during processing.
For effective operation, honey should be strained while it is naturally fluid and at a suitable room temperature. Water should never be added to honey to make it pass through the material.
Key Features
- Reusable fabric straining material
- Conical design supports controlled honey flow
- Suitable for small-scale and mobile processing
- Easy to suspend above a collection container
- Provides fine filtration after extraction
- Compact and convenient to store
RECOMMENDED PROCESSING SEQUENCE
From Extraction to Packaging
- Uncap only mature honey frames using clean equipment.
- Extract the honey using a suitable centrifugal extractor.
- Pass the extracted honey through a sieve or cloth strainer.
- Transfer the strained honey into a clean settling tank.
- Keep the tank covered while the honey settles.
- Remove collected foam, air bubbles and wax particles.
- Dispense the clarified honey into clean, food-safe containers.
All equipment that comes into contact with honey should be thoroughly cleaned, completely dried and protected from dust, moisture and contamination before use.
