SCHOOL BEEKEEPING PROJECT

Introducing Practical Beekeeping at Nairrabala School

African Beekeepers Limited partnered with Wildlife Clubs of Kenya to establish a school-based beekeeping project at Nairrabala School in Kajiado County.

The initiative introduced students and the wider school community to modern beekeeping while creating an opportunity for the school wildlife club to earn income from honey production.

A total of 50 Langstroth beehives were installed within the school compound. African Beekeepers Limited supports the management of the apiary and the harvesting of honey from the colonies.

HOW THE PROJECT WORKS

Learning, Conservation and Income Generation

The project provides students with practical exposure to bee management, honey production and the important role bees play in agriculture and environmental conservation.

Through participation in the school wildlife club, students can observe the management of Langstroth beehives and learn how a well-managed apiary can become a productive and sustainable agricultural enterprise.

Honey produced from the school apiary is harvested with support from African Beekeepers Limited. The school wildlife club receives income generated from the honey, connecting environmental education with a practical livelihood activity.

PROJECT VALUE

Growing the Next Generation of Beekeepers

The Nairrabala initiative demonstrates how school-based apiaries can combine environmental education with practical enterprise skills. Students gain an understanding of bees, pollination and responsible apiary management while seeing how honey production can support their school activities.

By bringing modern beekeeping into a learning environment, the project helps build early appreciation for bees and introduces young people to the possibilities available within Kenya’s beekeeping and honey industry.

COMMUNITY IMPACT

Beekeeping That Supports Education and Conservation

The project shows how a school apiary can become a practical learning resource while generating income and encouraging young people to appreciate the contribution of bees to agriculture and the environment.
