ABL APIARY PROJECTS
Managing Modern Apiaries Across Kenya
African Beekeepers Limited has been involved in several beekeeping projects over the years, both in Kenya and across the wider region.
Through these projects, ABL applies its practical experience in modern beekeeping, apiary establishment, colony management and honey production. The projects also provide an opportunity to demonstrate how properly managed Langstroth beehives can support reliable and commercially oriented honey production.
HOW THE PROJECTS WORK
Carefully Selected and Managed Apiaries
African Beekeepers Limited has established its own apiaries in several areas of Kenya. Langstroth beehives are placed in carefully selected locations and managed by ABL staff.
Site selection is an important part of the process. Each location must provide conditions suitable for keeping healthy colonies and supporting honey production. Once established, the apiaries receive regular attention from ABL’s beekeeping team.
The use of modern Langstroth beehives enables the colonies to be inspected and managed systematically while supporting the production of quality comb honey.
PROJECT AT A GLANCE
A Complete Honey Production System
- Project type: ABL-managed commercial apiaries
- Location: Selected areas across Kenya
- Hive system: Modern Langstroth beehives
- Management: African Beekeepers Limited staff
- Output: Honey for processing and packaging
FROM APIARY TO MARKET
Extraction, Processing and Packaging
All honey harvested from the project hives is transported to the African Beekeepers Limited facility in Nairobi.
At the facility, the honey is extracted from the combs, processed and packaged in preparation for sale. Managing the process from the apiary through to packaging helps ABL maintain appropriate handling practices throughout the honey value chain.
PROJECT VALUE
Modern Beekeeping from Hive to Market
ABL’s internal projects demonstrate a complete beekeeping system in which apiary establishment, hive management, harvesting, processing and packaging are connected as part of one commercially oriented value chain.
