STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP

ABL and Hand in Hand Eastern Africa Partner in Baringo

African Beekeepers Limited and Hand in Hand Eastern Africa entered into a partnership aimed at developing the honey value chain in Baringo County.

The partnership brings together modern beekeeping technology, farmer support and enterprise-development experience to improve the production and quality of honey in one of Kenya’s important beekeeping regions.

At the time the partnership was announced, Baringo County’s honey sector was estimated to have an annual potential value of approximately KES 900 million.

WHY BARINGO

A Region with Strong Honey-Producing Potential

Baringo County has a long association with beekeeping and honey production. Its natural vegetation, climate and existing beekeeping knowledge provide a strong foundation for expanding the sector.

Despite this potential, producers need access to suitable equipment, practical technical support and dependable market systems if beekeeping is to develop into a sustainable commercial enterprise.

Strengthening the full value chain can help participating beekeepers improve production practices, maintain honey quality and secure greater value from their work.

MODERN BEEKEEPING EQUIPMENT

Introducing Langstroth Beehives

As part of the partnership, African Beekeepers Limited supplied the project with modern Langstroth beehives.

Langstroth beehives allow colonies to be managed using removable frames. This makes it easier for trained beekeepers to inspect their colonies, monitor colony development and harvest mature honeycombs more systematically.

The introduction of modern hives was intended to improve both honey production and product quality while giving participating beekeepers a more organized system for managing their apiaries.

BUILDING THE VALUE CHAIN

Connecting Production, Skills and Markets

Developing the Baringo honey value chain requires coordinated attention to more than hive distribution. Beekeepers also need practical training, ongoing extension support, appropriate harvesting methods and access to reliable markets.

The partnership provides a platform through which technical beekeeping expertise can be combined with community enterprise development and farmer mobilization.

By strengthening these connected areas, the initiative aims to help producers improve their livelihoods while contributing to the growth of Baringo County’s honey economy.

PARTNERSHIPS FOR PROGRESS

Transforming Honey Potential into Sustainable Enterprise

By combining modern beekeeping technology, technical support and enterprise development, the partnership seeks to strengthen the path from the hive to the market for Baringo’s beekeepers.
